Celebrating 7 Years of Kofago Dance Ensemble

Seven years ago, Kofago Dance Ensemble was born out of a vision. Our founder, Kevin McEwen, imagined a company that would serve as a safe space for Black women—a place where artistry, healing, and empowerment could thrive. What started as an idea rooted in care and cultural preservation has blossomed into a movement that continues to uplift communities both locally and internationally.

Over the past seven years, Kofago has:

  • Grown into a dynamic ensemble of dancers, educators, and cultural bearers committed to telling stories of the African Diaspora.
  • Traveled across borders, from our home in New York City to international stages in Senegal and beyond, sharing our artistry with the world.
  • Carried forward our mission of education, equity, and healing, bringing West African and Diaspora traditions into schools, colleges, community spaces, and cultural institutions.

What began as a vision has become a legacy in motion. Every rehearsal, every performance, and every workshop reflects the power of community, the resilience of culture, and the beauty of unity.

As we step into this new chapter, we celebrate the dancers, educators, audiences, and supporters who have stood with us along the way. Kofago is not just a dance ensemble—it is a living archive of tradition, innovation, and hope.

Here’s to seven years of artistry, and to many more years of growth, travel, and impact.

Stay connected with us on Instagram this month as we highlight key moments from our journey—because the story of Kofago is the story of us all.
