Kwanzaa Celebration 2024

New York, NY – September 4th, 2024

Kofago Dance Ensemble Presents the 7th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration with the Theme “Obumu | Unity.” Kofago Dance Ensemble is excited to announce the 7th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, centered around the theme of “Obumu” for 2024. The word “Obumu” (Unity) comes from the Bugandan people of the east African country Uganda.

This year’s event emphasizes the strength and togetherness that define our community, bringing people together to celebrate the principles of Kwanzaa. In partnership with Rhythm N Dance Incorporated, the Kofago School of Dance and Culture, and Queensborough Community College, we invite you to join us on Saturday, December 14th, 2025, for a day of dynamic performances at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of Queensborough Community College.


“Obumu” speaks to the collective spirit that drives both our artistic journey and our community efforts. The 2024 celebration will not only showcase the talents of the Kofago Dance Ensemble but will also highlight the collaborative nature of our work, fostering connections that celebrate our shared cultural heritage.

Date: Saturday, December 14th, 2025

Venue: Queensborough Performing Arts Center, Queensborough Community College
Show One (Youth Showcase): 12:00 PM – A matinee performance focused on unity within our youth, featuring young talents from performing arts groups across New York City.
Show Two (Adult Showcase): 6:00 PM – An evening performance showcasing the full-length production by the acclaimed Kofago Dance Ensemble, the Queensborough Community College Dance Program, and special guest artists who embody the spirit of communal unity in the arts.

This year’s Kwanzaa Celebration will serve as a powerful testament to the principle of Umoja (Unity), uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds in a shared celebration of cultural and artistic expression. The event promises to be a remarkable display of creativity, community, and cultural pride.
